Recipe for Rustic Apple Tart

Make ahead note:

Tart can be made earlier in the day. If refrigerated, allow to come to room temperature before serving.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pkg refrigerator pie crust. There will be enough for 2 tarts.
  • 6 apples, cored and cut into half from top to bottom and then into 1/8" slices across
  • 1/2 stick (4 Tbl) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Open up the dough on a flat baking sheet. Roll the edges of the crust up to form a rim. Use a fork or thumb to crimp. Prick with a fork and refrigerate if apples are not ready.

Place overlapping slices of apple against the rim of the tart and continue until the whole bottom is covered. Brush with butter and then sprinkle with sugar. Bake for about 40 minutes. Apples will be somewhat caramelized and the crust should be golden. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream if you desire.
